Why am I Receiving a 18005 Error?

The following explains flashing error 18005 on TP-Link devices

After attempting to flash your unit with our firmware, you may receive a 18005 error.

This error code states:

"Upgrade unsuccessful because the version of the upgraded file was incorrect. Please check the file name."


This issue is typically noted with TP-Link devices.

The cause of this issue is either:

  • Wrong firmware used to install
  • Location lock on hardware issued by TP-Link

If you receive a 18005 error upon flashing your unit, please follow the troubleshooting steps below:

  1. Please ensure that the firmware used to flash the device matches the model/version/hardware number of the device. If the device firmware does not match the model unit, please re-flash the unit.

To locate the version/model number, please see the underside of your device..

If contacting support, please also provide, if possible, a picture of the underside of your device as well as a picture of the device connection setup to help us resolve your issue in a timely manner.
